23:59

This is more of a very personal visual diary of the younger me years ago as a fresh undergraduate studying abroad. About grey 23:59s in my head.

//This is a weekly mini-brief made all in a rush, there might be some bugs, will polish it later!

About the gameplay:

  • Please use your headphones
  • Click & click on the items/bubbles, just keep clicking & waiting
  • Input your name & location in the last scene to become part of the game
  • Around 10 minutes

----

Tried to:

  • Use colors and sound effects to hint at the moods/emotional feelings.
  • Play with the usual elements of visual novels, design interactions that better convey the intended struggling feelings.
  • Make players part of the game (the ending scene)

Unity:

  • Got familiar with Textmesh pro & unity events

Some issues:

  • The difference between mouse-tabs with touch-pads and mouse-clicks with mouses (While GetMouseButtonDown detects both actions, GetMouseButton doesn't seem to react to held-down actions from touch-pads on mac?)
  • The cursor sprite sometimes doesn't change properly, especially on mac.

Hi, it's me again. This was also a very calming game demo, I would say, with a not very calming topic. It empathizes with me so much since I'm an international student in another country without saying my native language, so all the struggles you depicted in this game echo with me as well. Moreover, I appreciated how you used the "last minute" of the day in your game. I saw similar designs in other classic games; you surely did a very good job using that element, which engages all the senses. Lastly, a stunning game demo, I wish you are still making games nowadays (because I saw that it's been a year for this demo to be posted), because it's very joyful to play your game!

Ohhhh I like it sooo much! It's so real (and warm by the end)!

Aww, thank you, really glad that you enjoyed it! Made my day & hope you are having a good one too!
